Boosting was a popular feature in this “Classic” version of Blizzard’s long-running MMORPG back in 2019. when classes that had powerful area-of-effect capabilities realized that they could team up a complete dungeon of enemies and eliminate them at once. Mage’s, with their powerful AOE and ability to control crowds that slow down or keep enemies’ movements, for example they could do this easily. This led to higher-level Mages or Paladins to start selling their “services” to lower-level characters who could then join the more advanced character in an dungeon and stand at the entrance, and earn the rewards when their Mage or Paladin defeated the entire dungeon at once.

As reported by Wowhead gamers have discovered that a number of dungeons within Burning Crusade Classic have seen modifications to the behavior of enemies that basically prevent them from being separated or kited around. Enemies will now simply move to players who try to use ledges and walls to avoid damage. Others are becoming immune diverse crowd-control actions like stuns, and they slow down after a certain time. Blizzard has also implemented an XP penalty for players at lower levels that are in a group with higher-level players as a way to stop the boosting.

The new changes occur exactly as Blizzard announced the “Joyous Journeys” event that gives 50percent bonus points on XP from now until the release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic on September 26.

Changes are similar to ones made for WoW Classic’s Season of Mastery last year however, they now affect Burning Crusade Classic and, according to a Blizzard forum thread from a few weeks ago, the coming Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Blizzard says in that blog post that the gold gained by those offering boosting services is typically used for “illicit acts,” and a large portion of money earned by buy WoTLK Gold boosters being sold back to players through third-party sites that are against the game’s conditions of use.
